The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) welcomes the announcement by the Secretary of State for Transport, Lord Adonis, of the introduction of a £30 million fund to support the purchase of low carbon buses. In conjunction with the changes to the Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) announced in the Budget, this package of measures will help transform the market for low carbon buses in the UK, significantly reduce emissions from the bus fleet and help to secure UK jobs.

Andrew Adonis, making his first public speech since his promotion to Secretary of State for Transport, told delegates at the LowCVP Conference that climate change is an issue which defines this age. He said that "for the automotive industry this is both a challenge and an opportunity. A challenge, obviously, because it means change". Lord Adonis and the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, made the keynote speeches at the Conference which was attended by 200 delegates and which was held alongside the What Car? Green Awards and the Revolve London to Brighton Eco-Rally. view more

Lord Andrew Adonis has been appointed the new Secretary of State for Transport, succeeding Geoff Hoon, while Sadiq Khan has joined the transport ministerial team as Minister of State for Transport with responsibility for low carbon transport issues. The Government reshuffle also expanded the role of BERR to include innovation and skills and a new departmental title: the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). BIS has ten ministers reporting to Lord Mandelson who will now be known as First Secretary of State. view more

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership is launching a Technology Challenge to provide a platform for promising innovations to be showcased to senior managers and directors of the component and vehicle manufacturers. The LowCVP is calling on UK innovators to submit creative concepts with the potential to cut emissions from road vehicles without the need for radical new infrastructure. view more
