Low Carbon Emission Buses

Low carbon buses are defined by the Government as those producing 30% less emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) than a normal diesel bus, based on a methodology developed by the LowCVP. Though they are also significantly more fuel efficient, in 2013 they only account for approximately 2% of the UK bus market; the majority of which operate in London.

The LowCVP's bus working group has been actively supporting Government to develop a policy framework to support the market introduction of these vehicles. This has resulted in the revision of the Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) to provide a level playing field for low carbon buses and the introduction of the Green Bus Fund to support the procurement of hundreds of these buses across England.

The LowCVP low carbon emission bus microsite has been created to provide bus operators, manufacturers and local transport authorities with a resource to assess, plan and implement the roll out of low carbon buses. The site provides information on;
